New Screenings Services

A screening exam is a test that is usually performed without a physician referral or medical need.  It is intended to detect the presence of disease but not to quantify it.

At Spencer Vascular, all vascular screening exams are done by appropriately credentialed (certified) vascular technologists.   Spencer Vascular is also fully accredited in all five areas of vascular diagnostic testing (link to our ICAVL web page)

At Spencer Vascular, our screening exams will only report the presence or absence of disease.  If disease is present, a complete diagnostic study may be warranted.

At Spencer Vascular, the results of the screening exam will be discussed with the patient by a vascular ultrasound professional credentialed in the area of testing being performed.

At Spencer Vascular, informative educational materials on vascular disease will be available to screening participants.

Why do we also offer Screening Services?

Insurance companies generally do not pay for vascular diagnostic exams until there are signs and symptoms of disease even if there are strong risk factors.  However, most vascular diseases are silent until they become significant.  Screening exams can detect even mild disease (or its absence) and they are a shortened abbreviated version of the complete diagnostic exam.  If significant disease is detected on a screening exam, then a complete exam can be ordered by your health care provider and will likely be covered by most insurance companies.
